Jacob Burrell Campos allegedly admitted selling "Hundreds of thousands of dollars" in BTC to more than 1,000 customers from January 2015 to April 2017, meaning that he operated an unregistered "Bitcoin exchange." According to the court, it is illegal in that Burrell did not register his business operation with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network of the U.S. Department of Treasury, and failed to apply AML regulations on the sources of his clients' funds.
